Chorley
Golf Club welcomed 20 keen golfers from the Victoria Golf Society in
autumnal conditions on Friday 6th September.
But
the course and conditions proved to be fine and a pleasant afternoon was
enjoyed by most. Mark Field had a 'field day' winning the longest drive, having
a 2, and making third place with 29pts. Evan Bale was second on 33pts and
Captain John Wilson won with 35pts, an excellent achievement in the circumstances.
Nearest The Pin on the tricky 3rd was won by Treasurer Peter Watson. The carvery for dinner was warm and
plentiful, providing most of us with a week's supply of protein at one sitting.
The red wine flowed after the meal until we were the last to leave!
Finishing
on a sombre note, there was a minute’s silence to recognise the untimely
and desperately sad passing of one our long-standing members, Kevin Allars.
Kevin joined in 2006 and was captain in 2012. He was energetic, positive and
always so helpful, and he was deeply committed to VGS. He was a top bloke. He
is much missed. RIP Kevin.’
