Wilpshire Golf Club hosted the Victoria Golf Society on Friday 9th October. 15 brave souls turned up with a tough weather forecast, strong winds and showers. For an hour or 2 the sun shone and although the wind blew the views and the sun almost compensated. Then a light shower, alright a heavy downpour which the wind turned into a painful experience, dampened things down.
However, Wilpshire Golf Course held up, the greens were firm, the views fabulous, the fairways firm. It was hard work up the hills and into the wind but well worth the effort. (Well I thought so.)
Having said all that, it was great to retire to the clubhouse for some comfort and excellent hospitality, and a spicy chicken curry complete with popadoms, then a lovely apple crumble and jugs of custard to finish. It was an unforgettable day.
Results:
Winner Nick Pilkington 31pts - who retired after 14 holes - remarkable!
2nd Paul Yates 30 pts cpo
3rd Evan Bale 30 pts
2s - Gareth Ball, LD - Gareth Ball, NTP Paul Yates on a very tough 5th hole. NTP in 2 John Wilson.
Other highlights, Peter Watson forgot his trolley battery and ended up getting a pull trolley. What a day and course to do this! He then thinned an approach on the 14th but expecting the worst the ball hit the pin and instead of flying through the green, left him with a tap in! Perhaps there is a god!
Thanks to John Wilson for preparing the cards and Sue for the delicious biscuits.
